The Opportunity

We are seeking a Construction Safety Manager to take ownership of safety operations across Gray & Becker’s active construction projects.

This role is designed for a hands-on safety professional who understands what it takes to maintain safe, efficient jobsites and can build strong relationships with superintendents, subcontractors, and project teams.

This is not a desk-based compliance role.

The Safety Manager will spend significant time in the field, supporting project teams, identifying risks, driving corrective actions, and ensuring safety standards are consistently applied across active construction sites.

The ideal candidate combines strong construction safety experience with practical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to influence teams at all levels.

The Safety Manager is accountable for:

1. Jobsite Safety Leadership – Ensuring safe execution across active construction projects

2. Risk Prevention & Compliance – Identifying hazards, improving processes, and maintaining OSHA compliance

3. Subcontractor Safety Management – Partnering with trade partners to maintain safety expectations

4. Safety Program Development – Strengthening documentation, processes, and practices as the company grows

5. Project Partnership – Working alongside superintendents and project teams to support successful project delivery

Key Responsibilities

Jobsite Safety Operations

• Lead safety oversight across active construction projects, including structural steel erection, elevated work, crane operations, and other high-risk activities

• Conduct regular jobsite inspections and identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and opportunities for improvement

• Develop and maintain site-specific safety plans, JHAs, permits, and required project documentation

• Lead incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning

• Monitor safety performance and provide recommendations to improve field execution

Subcontractor & Trade Partner Safety

• Partner with subcontractors and trade partners to ensure compliance with Gray & Becker safety expectations

• Review subcontractor safety documentation, qualifications, and required certifications

• Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety communications

• Build strong relationships with field teams while maintaining accountability for safety standards

Safety Process & Program Improvement

• Help improve Gray & Becker’s safety policies, procedures, and field processes

• Create scalable documentation and tracking practices to support growing project requirements

• Identify opportunities to strengthen safety culture and reduce risk

• Support customer safety requirements and contractual obligations

• Collaborate with leadership and external EHS resources when needed

Project Collaboration

• Work closely with superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and field teams

• Provide practical safety guidance that supports both compliance and project execution

• Act as a trusted safety partner across multiple active projects

Qualifications

• 6+ years of construction safety experience

• Experience supporting large-scale construction projects, ideally involving structural steel, PEMB, industrial construction, or other high-risk environments

• Experience managing subcontractor safety programs and field safety operations

• Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and safety practices

• OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 500 and CHST preferred

• Experience with fall protection, crane/rigging operations, lift plans, or other high-risk construction activities preferred

• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence field teams and project leadership

• Comfortable working independently in a field-based environment

• Willingness to travel approximately 50% throughout Texas and occasionally out of state

• Based in or near Austin, San Antonio, or Central Texas
