The Opportunity

We are seeking a high-caliber Controller to serve as the operational and technical leader of

the accounting function and a strategic partner to the CFO. This role is designed for a

disciplined thinker who can build, strengthen, and scale financial infrastructure in a

multi-entity, growth-oriented environment.

This is not a maintenance role. It is a performance role.

The Controller will fully own accounting operations, lead and control the annual audit

process, elevate internal controls, optimize systems, and play a meaningful role in

acquisition diligence and post-transaction integration. The ideal candidate combines strong

technical depth with practical judgment, process rigor, and the confidence to challenge

assumptions when necessary.

The Controller is accountable for:

1. Financial Integrity – Accurate, timely, GAAP-compliant reporting

2. Audit Ownership – Full accountability from planning through issuance

3. Infrastructure Strengthening – Scalable systems and disciplined processes

4. Acquisition Support – Financial diligence and integration leadership

5. Team Performance – Clear expectations, accountability, and development

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

  • in accordance with GAAP

  • Produce comprehensive financial reports for executive review, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analyses

  • Own the ASC 842 lease accounting process, including review and entries using Leasecake and preparation of related disclosure workpapers for the annual audit

  • Manage the review and accounting of fixed assets, ensuring accurate capitalization, depreciation, and reporting

  • Continuously refine and enhance the month-end close process to improve efficiency and accuracy

  • Strengthen and standardize balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, ensuring completeness and integrity

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating audit requests and supporting the successful and timely completion of the annual financial audit

  • Provide ad hoc financial reports and analysis to support strategic initiatives and executive decision-making

Acquisitions & Due Diligence Leadership

  • Lead accounting diligence support and data room preparation

  • Assess risk, working capital exposure, and integration considerations

  • Identify accounting policy gaps or system limitations during diligence

  • Assist with post-close accounting integration and process alignment

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Partner with leadership to develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts, establishing financial targets, key assumptions, and strategic priorities

  • Monitor and analyze budget-to-actual performance, providing clear explanations for significant variances and trends

  • Identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities and process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and support organizational objectives

  • Lead the cash flow forecasting and monitoring process to ensure optimal liquidity management and financial planning

Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all regulatory and financial reporting requirements

  • Regularly evaluate and enhance accounting policies, processes, and procedures to drive operational efficiency and align with industry best practices

  • Monitor changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory guidelines, ensuring timely adoption and ongoing compliance across all financial functions

Team Leadership and Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members, providing ongoing guidance, feedback, and support to encourage professional growth and high performance

  • Lead regular team meetings to align on priorities, address challenges, and foster open communication

  • Coordinate and manage team workflow, ensuring timely, accurate execution of all accounting functions and deliverables

  • Cultivate a collaborative and accountable work culture that encourages innovation, continuous improvement, and shared success

  • Oversee core accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, business compliance, and general accounting operations

Additional responsibilities

  • Management and oversight of business license compliance, business privilege taxes, property taxes, and sales & use tax reporting

  • Assist with payroll-related requests, including managing payroll tax accounts and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations

  • Collections efforts - including managing the relationship and flow of information to/from the collection agencies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in accounting or financial management roles, with increasing levels of responsibility

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations (GAAP).

  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting

  • Experience with financial reporting and preparation of financial statements

  • Demonstrated success leading or managing accounting teams in a remote environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels

  • Strong leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing teams and driving results

  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software, GoogleSuite and Microsoft Excel

  • Attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
